Bacteriophage‐Templated Assembly of Magnetic Nanoparticles and Their Actuation Potential

Magnetic chains are of fundamental and technological interest. However, 1D assemblies magnetic nanoparticles only metastable such that their controlled organization requires the use templates. Bacteriophages human-inoffensive viruses with a filamentous morphology have been shown to exhibit great potential in materials research. Here, we thus utilized M13 phage as model for formation actuated magnetite nanoparticle superstructures. First, built sperm-like ensemble by covalently attaching head phage. Second, chain-like obtained based on electrostatic interactions between positively-charged attached negatively-charged surface. The nanoparticles-phages assembly is steered external fields. We anticipate can find applications nanotechnology or nanomedicine.
